Battle of Aeonia (Malenia vs. Radahn)

📍 Location: Caelid
🛡 Who she fought: General Radahn
🔥 Why? A war for dominance over the Great Runes

👉 Malenia led her Cleanrot Knights into battle against Radahn, the mightiest demigod of all. Their clash ended in a draw, but in her final desperate moment, Malenia unleashed the Scarlet Rot, turning Caelid into a rotting wasteland. This ruined Radahn, leaving him as a mindless beast, but it also left Malenia weak and unconscious.

2. Awakening & Mohg’s Betrayal

📍 Location: Unclear (somewhere after Aeonia)
🛡 Who she fought: No major fight, but she lost something precious
🔥 Why? Mohg kidnapped her twin brother, Miquella

👉 While Malenia was unconscious after the battle with Radahn, Mohg stole Miquella from their Haligtree cocoon and took him to Mohgwyn Palace. Malenia woke up weakened and alone and continued searching for her brother, but she never reached him.

3. Tarnished vs. Malenia (Final Boss Fight in Haligtree)

📍 Location: Elphael, Brace of the Haligtree
🛡 Who she fought: The Tarnished (You)
🔥 Why? You challenge her as part of your journey for the Elden Ring

👉 After losing Miquella, Malenia retreated to the Haligtree, where she waited—perhaps hoping for Miquella’s return. When you face her, she acknowledges your strength but warns:

"I am Malenia, Blade of Miquella. And I have never known defeat."

Fight Breakdown:

Phase 1: Malenia, Blade of Miquella

  • Extremely fast and aggressive sword attacks
  • Waterfowl Dance – Her deadly flurry move
  • She heals with every hit (very difficult to counter)

Phase 2: Goddess of Rot

  • Malenia blooms into a true goddess of Scarlet Rot
  • She flies and crashes down with Rot explosions
  • Summons Rot butterflies and aerial attacks

When you finally defeat her, you prove that she can be beaten, something no one else in the game ever accomplished.

Why Malenia is Unique

✔ She is undefeated (until you fight her).
✔ Her loyalty to Miquella is unshakable, despite never seeing him again.
✔ She represents strength, tragedy, and sacrifice—living with a disease (Scarlet Rot) that both empowers and destroys her.

What Happens After You Beat Malenia?

  • You get Malenia’s Great Rune (but it doesn’t work like other runes).
  • You can use her Remembrance to get Hand of Malenia (her katana) or Scarlet Aeonia (her Rot explosion attack).
  • If you give her Unalloyed Gold Needle (from Millicent’s quest), it becomes Miquella’s Needle, which lets you resist Frenzied Flame.
